Does this scenario sound familiar? It’s a time of transition for you. Just when you need a spark, a boost, a fire in your belly – your battery starts flashing ‘low’.

I’ve found myself here many times, from moving house to dealing with changes at work.

There are several reasons why you may feel low on energy during times of change.

Here are some some insights into why low energy and change are linked.

Stress: Change can be stressful, and stress can take a toll on our physical and emotional energy levels. The stress response triggers the release of cortisol and other stress hormones, which can lead to physical fatigue and exhaustion.

Uncertainty: Change often involves uncertainty, which can be mentally and emotionally taxing. When we don’t know what’s going to happen next or how things will turn out, it can be difficult to stay motivated and energised.

Loss: Change often involves some kind of loss, whether it’s the loss of a job, a relationship, or a familiar routine. Dealing with loss can be emotionally draining and can contribute to feelings of low energy and motivation.

Overwhelm: Change can involve a lot of new information, new people, and new responsibilities. When we’re trying to process all of these new things at once, it can be overwhelming and exhausting.

Tips for keeping your battery charged

During times of change, it’s important to practice self-care, mindfulness, and stress-management techniques to help manage these challenges.

This might include:

  • Getting enough sleep.
  • Exercising regularly.
  • Practising relaxation techniques.
  • Seeking support from friends, family, or a coach.

It’s also important to be patient with and kind to yourself.

Recognise that feeling low on energy during times of change is a normal and natural response to a challenging situation.
